Mike Alden: 5 p.m. on Oct. 25 in the Fred W. Smith Forum
A former student athlete, coach and current president of the Division 1A Athletic Directors Association, Alden took charge at Mizzou in 1998 when the school ranked near the bottom of the league in on-field success facility development and fundraising. Since beginning his 13-year stint in Columbia, Alden has seen several programs rise to the level of national championship contenders, and Mizzou has become a competitor in football, men’s basketball, soccer and softball. The school has won two softball championships in that time, and the gymnastics team won its first-ever NCAA regional title in 2010.
Alden will discuss his career as Mizzou’s athletic director. He’ll dive into his encounters with high-level media coverage and will explain the impact of journalism on college sports.
